The Boston Marathon is the first city marathon in the world and one of the five largest marathons in the world (the other four are: London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York Marathon). The Boston Marathon began on April 19, 1897 and falls on patriotic day every year (the third Monday of April) is held in Boston, Massachusetts. It is currently hosted by the Boston track and Field Association.
